Zoo alphabet N - nar

Two related reptiles with similar coloration and totally different body types live in the shelter of the tri colored grass plains. The grass there matches their bodies, which turn a paler green and red brown just before hibernation, when the land loses its beauty at the onset of the cold season of winter.

Tiny, long tail nar are expert climbers, and as a matter of fact, can perch on the side of a completely vertical wall with little fear of falling. Tailless digging nar are landbound. They have powerful upper bodies and heads making them look a lot like alien bulldogges instead of reptiles, a family group that they may or may not be a part of. Nar lay eggs, sun bask for warmth; have identical cone shaped teeth and are covered with scaly skins. In the larger of these two species, nar couples take turns moving eggs from nest to nest, care for their young for a resonable amount of time and even teach them rudimentary hunting skills. Nar also have seperate anal and uro-genital openings which are unheard of in normal reptiles.

Both of these lovely creatures bear a long horn on their nose which is used for fighting, and in the digging variety, for self defense against land predators as well. This horn may be up to seven inches in length in some individuals. Both of these lizards have inflatable red cheek rounds which fill with air and help to to vocalize their moods.

Long tail nar have been inadvertantly transplanted into stationary colonies in the desert and do quite well there as they are quite prolific. Their coloration is their only weakness. Many fliers and y'eskii'ill children catch them for differing reasons. Food and playthings mostly.

Digging nar horn and skin is used in medicine dances by y'eskii'ill performers.
