Zoo alphabet W- Wuhumpachee

Held off on W for a while as I pretty much suck at interpreting the crawly crits I see in my head. A couple of these bugs are downright tasty though, so they came a bit easier to me.

There are actually only two crits on the paper who are called wuhumpachee, but the others are related specimens of what I call 'addle bugs' ie: insectoids which use their thick flattened legs to swim through their environments. Most of these paddle bugs have sucking mouthparts, but a few have jaws built for chewing. All of these 'insects' have one thing in common in that the rear of their backs contain their breathing organs. I think. When startled or picked up, these creatures back plates spread and close rapidly, revealing gill like filters.

1) Poas dedo'a-' Many fingers' Actual size depicted. Lives in fallen leaf litter. Has chewing mouthparts

2) Pelka illum -'stripe eye' Totally aquatic. Has large prey catching and chewing mouthparts. Actual size.

3) Rekchshepess- 'angry face' aquatic, small biting mouth. Ineffective against larger animals. Actual size

4) Namii wuhumpachee -' mother wuhumpachee' Small fist sized and delicious, this sand swimmer paddle bug is a delicasy to y'eskii'ill. The bright coloration tells predators, 'I taste horrible, which they do, unless steamed in thermal vents, which bring out a lovely white color and scallop-like taste and texture. This crit has a suction mouth which collects smaller crits in the sands it makes it's home in. Shown slightly smaller than its fist sized actual body. Has vacuum mouth.

5) Teg sok -'Teg sucker' Blood eating parasite which bothers not only teg'a alone, but also most other grazing animals. Shown larger than it's original size, which is more like that of a fly.

6) Bahtoht wuhumpachee- 'Father wuhumpachee' Largest of the paddle bugs, lives in the sand, this heart shaped red monster is the size of a male y'eskii'ill'a open hand. It, like the namii, is also delicious steamed. Has suction mouth, and numerous prey finding foot 'hairs'

7) Heebwer'a- 'inks' Natural parasite of y'eskii'ill, and they LOVE blue tail blood. Shown much smaller than its pinhead sized body, these crits do their annoying feeding in numbers and are eradicated by plucking, heat application, or lime water baths.

8) Nierhhep whiecheff- 'night sand swimmer' Fastest sand swimmer in the desert. Lives in the tooth mountain black bad lands. Actual size.

9) Osoh boso- 'slow tunnel crit' A smooth, paddle-foot similar to 4, 5, 6 and 8 in body and head shape, but bears nipping and chewing , instead of suction mouthparts. They survive mainly on small mammal young. Slightly smaller than actual size.
